Product Details - Patagonia Men's R4 Jacket


Things that can't be overdone: deep powder, clear skies and furnace-like warmth for the Vallée Blanche in January. Our R4® fabric is the warmest fleece available, with improved Polartec® Windbloc® polyester that has a windproof laminate sandwiched between a high-loft exterior and an R2® grid interior. This toasty, full-stretch package features sonic-welding and micro-stitch technology on the zipper seams to reduce bulk, creating a more sleek and supple silhouette. Microfleece lines the collar, cuffs and hem for comfort, and the zippered handwarmers secure necessities. Offset shoulder yokes allow for pack-wearing comfort, and an interior wind flap prevents chill through the zipper.

        I am 6'2" 220 lbs. I've been wearing a Patagonia XL for more years than I can remember and have a closet full of Patagonia outerwear. I was very disappointed when I received this R4 jacket and found the shoulders, back and upper arms to be extremely tight fitting. Patagonia's XL fit has always been perfect for me and I have never had to return an item. My body size hasnt fluctuated, so they must have gone to a trimmer size. I have a skiing buddy who also took advantage of the O2 gear shop sale and bought this jacket only to find the same issue, so the problem looks consistent. We both returned the item. I hope Patagonia eases up on the trim fit for these types of jackets.

                      I know what you're thinking, this is pretty expensive for a fleece. However, the amount of use and warmth you will get out of the R4 actually makes it a bargain.

                      I love mine so much that I have since bought one for my Dad and one for my wife. This jacket is highly recommended, especially if you live in a place where cold winds can be a factor.

                      I like that the sleeves are long (as is the case with all Patagonia jackets), but those who would not like this should take this into account.

                      I could be picky about few other factors, but the bottom line is I love this jacket. It has kept me warm in temps well below freezing and is also my go to jacket whenever it is under 50 degrees or so. Hope this helps those of you considering the purchase.
