August 23, 1915: Carbon County Sheep Company foreman Joe Belardi, after gambling away his wages and that of his only two shepherds, stole into camp, killed his men and then burned the evidence. Ranger Harry Temple saw the smoke early that morning and, upon finding the burnt camp, alerted the people of nearby Columbine who captured Belardi in his attempt to escape to the north.
