With a road that was often washed out, the area, only a few miles from the county seat was as remote as the Rockies could get in 1903. But the people of Wolf Mountain persevered and and even built their own school. Throughout prohibition, the isolation of Wolf Mountain worked in their favor as it was the location of a productive moonshine still. Now that we call that community service!
