Comments about Mountain Hardwear Men's Downtown Coat - F12:

I'm 5'9, 155 lbs, athletic build, and the M size fit me very well; it gave enough space underneath to layer if I needed to. The style is nice as well, it's sleek but simple. I wanted a non-bubbly down jacket that wasn't too bulky and this fit the bill well. The jacket is lightweight, and from what I could tell (I didn't keep the jacket), the outer shell felt durable. The hand pockets were excellent - they're fleece lined and underneath a layer of down. The hood is also very warm as it is insulated w/ down. However, I found the hood to be slightly short - not good if you style your hair because it'll give you helmet hair.

Now I read a lot of reviews before purchasing this jacket and there were many complaints were about the insulation in the sleeves. Some have claimed that the Fall 2012 version has improved upon that, but I have to disagree. When you feel around the sleeves, there are areas that are almost devoid of down - especially the front of the elbows. I tried re-puffing and redistributing the down in the sleeves, but eventually, the down would move away from those areas. I've tested this jacket outside in about 26 degrees F, and I could feel the cold penetrating through the sleeves. On one humid and windy day of about 30 degrees, I felt myself shivering underneath this jacket. The body warmth was fine, it was just the sleeves. I have to admit that I do not tolerate the cold too well, so this was the deal-breaker for me. Where I'm from, it gets much colder than that, so I had to return the jacket. I really liked this jacket, but to me, I didn't think it would serve it's purpose as a winter jacket.
